The MED Foundation of Mercer Health awards scholarships to 19 local high school seniors

The Medical, Educational and Development (MED) Foundation of Mercer Health recently awarded a total of $20,000 to local high school students furthering their education in the medical field after graduation. Scholarships were awarded to students from each of the six high schools in Mercer County and recipients were selected based on their academic performance, extracurricular activities, volunteerism and plans for higher education.

“We are pleased to announce the recipients of the 2024 MED Foundation Scholarships and to highlight each of their educational journeys,” Deb Hemmelgarn, MED Foundation and Volunteer Services Director stated. “We are proud to support the goals of these aspiring students in our community who aim to contribute to the future of health care.”

MED Foundation scholarship recipients for 2024 include:

Celina

  • Savannah Jacobs – Nursing, Wright State, Ashland University, or University of Findlay
  • Caitlyn Nuding – Nursing, Wright State Lake Campus       

Coldwater

  • Braxton Howell – Biology/Pre-Med, Indiana University
  • Riley Kremer – Nursing/Nurse Anesthetist, University of Dayton
  • Emma May – Health Sciences/Physical Therapy, University of Toledo
  • Abigail Schwieterman – Nursing, University of Toledo
  • Olivia Tobe – Health Sciences/Pre-Med, University of Toledo

Ft. Recovery

  • Megan Evers – Radiographic Imaging, Rhodes State College
  • Trevor Heitkamp – Biochemistry/Doctorate or Masters, Roberts Wesleyan University
  • Allison Knapke – Nursing/Nurse Practitioner, The Ohio State University

Marion Local

  • Alyssa Zizelman – Neuroscience/Pre-Med, Wright State University

Parkway

  • Meg Henkle – Nursing, Davis & Elkins College

The MED Foundation Scholarship Program is funded by the annual Esmonde/Homan Golf Outing and Golf Ball Drop. Due to the success of the golf outing in recent years, the MED Foundation has been able to provide additional scholarships to even more local students. Since 1992, 347 scholarships have been awarded totaling $366,450.00. This year’s golf outing is scheduled for Friday, June 14, 2024 at the Mercer County Elks.
