We are excited for your interest in healthcare and the Job Shadowing program at Mercer Health. This program allows high school or college students with specific interests to observe in a variety of departments throughout the organization on a short-term basis, including in both clinical and non-clinical settings.

Through the Job Shadowing program at Mercer Health you will be able to learn about healthcare careers and the skills required for different occupations. By observing our healthcare professionals in action, you will be able to explore your own interests while having the opportunity to experience the exceptional care Mercer Health provides locally to patients and their families.

Job Shadowing Requirements

A full listing of Job Shadowing requirements can be found in the link below, the main things to note:

  • Student must be in high school or higher. Student should be a student or graduate of a Mercer County (or adjacent county) school system.
  • This is a short-term experience. Anything ongoing needs to be coordinated through the Director of Volunteer Services.
  • The Observer/Job Shadowing Questionnaire must be completed and returned.
  • The student must sign the Observer/Job Shadowing Confidentiality Statement and verbalize understanding of the importance of confidentiality.
  • Student must have proof of a PPD test within the last year.
Privacy Reminder in regards to job shadowing:

You are not to discuss what you see or hear during your shadowing experience with anyone. This is trusted, private information. In addition, cell phones are NOT ALLOWED in any patient areas. You CANNOT have your cell phones out or take pictures in any patient care area. If you have your cell phone out, you will be asked to leave immediately.

Summer Internship & Exploration Program

Mercer Health’s Medical Staff is again offering a summer internship and exploration program for college students who are considering applying for medical school and have completed at least two years of college by the time the programs begins. The program, which will take place in June, will be an opportunity for students to learn from local physicians and help students make an informed decision about applying for medical school. Applications are due by March 1, 2024 and should be sent to myhealth@mercer-health.com.
