Primary Care

Your Trusted Primary Care Providers

Annual Wellness Visit

Why do I need an annual wellness visit?

Annual wellness visits with your provider allow you to create or update a personalized prevention plan that can help prevent illness based on your current health and risk factors. The goal is to prevent future health problems. A wellness visit typically includes:

  • Review of medical and family history
  • Review of current medications
  • Review of current specialists or other providers
  • Personalized health advice

School Sports Physicals

*The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends sports physicals in conjunction with a comprehensive annual wellness exam by the primary care provider for several reasons:
  • A comprehensive exam by a provider who knows the athlete personally and who has access to the athlete’s complete medical record, can make unnecessary restriction from sports less likely.
  • The office setting provides a quiet environment which makes it easier to perform an accurate physical exam and provides more privacy for the athlete.
  • Sports physicals provided by the athlete’s own provider allows for more time to discuss confidential health issues and makes it easier to coordinate care with consultants as needed for any follow-up evaluation.
  • A comprehensive exam safeguards an athlete’s health by establishing documented baselines and identifying and addressing potential concerns; also helpful should the athlete start new symptoms or have an injury throughout the season.

Direct Access Testing

What is Direct Access Testing?

Mercer Health offers direct access testing as a convenient and cost-effective option for patients looking to gain greater insight into their health. Direct access testing is available on a walk-in basis in multiple locations without an order from a provider. However, it is strongly recommended that all results from direct access testing be shared with a patient’s provider.  This ensures any changes to health status can be proactively and appropriately addressed.
