The Medical Staff of Mercer Health has initiated a scholarship program to support medical students from Mercer County and surrounding counties, as well as medical students who have participated in rotations at Mercer Health, by offering scholarships to those individuals.
The Mercer Health Medical Student Scholarship will award $2,000 to a medical school student who has shown a strong connection to Mercer Health or the surrounding communities. The scholarship will be awarded for a one-year period and provided directly to the student.
To apply for the scholarship, you must be a resident of the United States who is currently enrolled as a 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th-year medical student in an accredited MD/DO school located in the United States. Applicant must either be a resident of Mercer County or one of the adjacent counties for at least 12 months prior to registering as a medical student or have participated in a rotation at Mercer Health.
Participants must apply online and submit transcript of their medical school courses/grades and a letter, on school letterhead, from the applicant’s medical school verifying that he/she is enrolled full time as a medical student at that institution. Applications will be accepted until October 1st, 2020.
“Research shows the United States will face a shortage of nearly 122,000 physicians by 2032,” stated John Terpstra, D.O. and Chief of Staff at Mercer Health. “The physician shortage is a major issue facing the nation, and I am excited that the medical staff at Mercer Health has taken the initiative to create this scholarship program to award medical students who have a strong connection to Mercer Health and our community. Our local healthcare system will continue to thrive for generations as long as we can continue to provide access to quality medical staff.”
