Mercer Health’s Wound Healing Center team includes board certified nurses by the Wound Ostomy Continence Nursing Certification Board. Most recently, the nurses received additional training in the Wound Treatment Associate (WTA) program offered by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN). The WTA program equips nurses with evidence-based training to provide optimal care for patients with acute and chronic wounds. This mark of excellence ensures a nurse is knowledgeable and qualified to provide patients with the right kind of care.
Susan Miller, VP of Patient Care Services at Mercer Health shares, “The process of healing acute and chronic wounds can be difficult and consuming. Specialty, evidence-based, individualized care is often required. Mercer Health’s Wound Care team is not only focused on providing specialty, evidence-based, individualized care, but helping patients regain their independence and health. The individualized care provided by Mercer Health’s Wound Healing Center team includes helping the patient understand why a wound may not be healing and offering clinical treatment and support to reach wound healing goals. I commend our team of nurses at the Wound Healing Center for their commitment to their patients.”
Patients with wounds that have not improved in 4 weeks, wounds that have increased drainage, size or redness or wounds that are causing discomfort or pain are encouraged to call and make an appointment at Mercer Health’s Wound Healing Center at 419-586-9657. The team in the Wound Healing Center will work to understand why a wound may not be healing, which could be poor circulation, diabetes, infection, nutrition deficits and repeat trauma and apply specialized treatment based upon the patient’s individual needs.
Recently the following nurses received additional training in the Wound Treatment Associate (WTA) program offered by the Wound, Ostomy and Continence Nurses Society (WOCN), Jenny Koesters, Chelsea Heitkamp, Peg Bruggeman and Tara Berkenstock.
