Mercer Health’s Play Hospital Brings Healthcare to Life for Nearly 800 Kindergarteners

Mercer Health’s Play Hospital was full of excitement as nearly 800 kindergarteners explored healthcare in a fun, hands-on way!

For almost 30 years, this interactive program has welcomed students from Mercer County elementary schools—including St. Henry, Celina, Marion Local, Coldwater, Parkway, Fort Recovery, and Immaculate Conception—along with Versailles Elementary to step into the world of medicine.

From learning about handwashing and healthy habits to getting an up-close look at hospital tools and surgery basics, Play Hospital gave young students a chance to discover how a hospital works. All students had the opportunity to meet Mr. Bones, our friendly skeleton model, and some even got to see real-life babies in the hospital nursery! A few lucky students also met Ripsi, Mercer Health’s therapy dog, who supports patients in the Mercer Health Medical Group Mental Wellness program.

“Play Hospital is all about helping kids feel comfortable in a healthcare setting while making learning fun,” said Mindy Kremer, Vice President of Development, Marketing and Communications.“Seeing their excitement as they explore the hospital, meet new faces, and discover the world of medicine makes this program so special.”

Mercer Health is proud to continue this tradition, fostering curiosity and building connections with the next generation—one playful hospital visit at a time!
