The Auditor of State Award is given to entities that file timely financial reports in accordance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Practices), as well as receive a “clean” audit report by meeting the following criteria:

  • The audit report does not contain findings for recovery, material citations, material weaknesses, significant deficiencies, Single Audit findings or questioned costs
  • The entity’s management letter contains no comments related to ethics referrals, questioned costs less than $10,000, lack of timely report submission, reconciliation, failure to obtain a timely Single Audit, findings for recovery less than $100, public meetings or public records
  • The entity has no other concerns

“The Auditor of State’s office is responsible for auditing more than 6,000 state and local government agencies,” a press release from the office of the Ohio Auditor of State, Keith Faber, indicates. “Under the direction of Auditor Keith Faber, the office also provides financial services to local governments, investigates and prevents fraud in public agencies and promotes transparency in government.”

“Less than 8% of the entities that are audited by Ohio’s Auditor of State office receive a clean audit award.  Our accounting department is meticulous and our entire team is committed to being good financial stewards.” states Jon Dingledine, Mercer Health Chief Financial Officer.
