Mercer Health received the 2019 Community Improvement Award at the annual Coldwater Chamber of Commerce banquet on February 13.
The Community Improvement Award, given each year to a local business that has had a positive impact on the community, was presented to Mercer Health in recognition of the West Wing Expansion at Mercer County Community Hospital. The expansion was announced in February 2016, and in less than 21 months, the $24 million project was completed. The Sanderell Family West Wing opened on October 20, 2019.
Eric Thomas, Village Administrator of Coldwater, presented the award to Lisa Klenke, Mercer Health CEO, and George Boyles, Mercer Health Senior Vice President and CFO.
“Since 1950, when the hospital was started, it has grown, evolved, and has become a major part of not only the Village of Coldwater, but to all of Mercer County and West Central Ohio,” Thomas said. “The amount of time and resources that Mercer Health put into this project is truly remarkable. I sincerely hope that all the employees of Mercer Health can look at the addition with great pride knowing they have made and continue to make a difference for our community.”
Lisa Klenke expressed gratitude on behalf of the entire Mercer Health organization to the numerous donors, the campaign cabinet and to the community for their support of the Sanderell Family West Wing.
“This is your hospital – the community’s hospital. We are just fortunate enough to be the caretakers of it for now,” Klenke said. “We are honored to be a part of something of this magnitude that will serve the community and their healthcare needs for generations.”
