Mercer Health receives 5-Star Rating & Patient Experience Award

Mercer Health has recently received several awards recognizing its commitment to quality care, patient experience and safety.

5-Star Rating from Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services

Mercer Health’s Mercer County Community Hospital is one of 429 hospitals in the United States and only 30 in Ohio to receive a five-star rating from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) in a recent release of data.  CMS released its Overall Hospital Quality Star Ratings in July, reporting on measures from more than 4,000 hospitals. Star ratings range from one to five, with the majority falling in the three- and four-star range. The ratings derive from performance measures across five keys areas: mortality, readmission, safety, patient experience and timeline & effective care.

“Our staff is always striving to provide the best care to the community,” said Lisa Klenke, CEO at Mercer Health. “It is their dedication and compassion that should be recognized.”

The Star Rating was launched in July 2016 as a way to summarize quality information in a consumer-friendly format. The measures are reported and explained on Hospital Compare on the CMS web site.

Outstanding Patient Experience Award from Healthgrades

Mercer Health was recognized by Healthgrades, the leading online resource for patients to find and connect with the right doctor or hospital, as one of 399 hospitals as a recipient of its 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award. This represents the top 15 percent of hospital in the United States for patient experience. Mercer Health was one of just 18 Ohio hospitals receiving this recognition.

The awards are based on an analysis of over 3,000 hospitals that submitted at least 75 patient experience surveys to CMS for hospital admissions between July 2020 and March 2021. Healthgrades applied a scoring methodology to ten patient experience measures, such as overall rating and whether a patient would recommend the hospital to family or friends.

“This is a great testament to our staff and providers who believe in and providing exceptional patient experiences,” said Susan Miller, Chief Clinical Officer at Mercer Health. “Customer service and patient experience is truly part of our culture at Mercer Health.”

“We applaud all recipients of the Healthgrades 2022 Outstanding Patient Experience Award for putting patient experience at the front and center within their organizations,” said Brad Bowman, MD, chief medical officer and Head of Data Science, Healthgrades. “We commend these hospitals for their ongoing commitment in prioritizing an exceptional patient experience, while ensuring the health and safety of their patients.”
