Mercer Health utilizes nearly 600 units of blood on an annual basis for patients requiring transfusions to replace blood loss from surgical procedures, accidents or treatments for certain diagnoses. Mercer Health thanks the community for continuing to support local blood drives and is pleased to partner with Versiti Blood Center of Ohio, a world-class, non-profit blood health organization committed to serving the Dayton area and surrounding communities with lifesaving resources.
“Our community has a history of being generous blood donors. We encourage donors to consider giving at local blood drives sponsored by Versiti as this will ensure our inventory stays replenished as Versiti is the sole blood supplier for Mercer Health.”
– Mindy Kremer, VP of Development, Marketing and Community Relations at Mercer Health
Mercer Health’s commitment is to be here for our community. Versiti Blood Center of Ohio is a regional blood center, so all blood collected stays local. With other distributers, there is often a national need which creates a local shortage. By donating locally with Versiti, your blood may go directly to a family member, friend or neighbor in need.
The partnership includes a schedule of monthly community blood drives at Mercer Health’s Mercer County Community Hospital and a rotation of community blood drives every two months at Mercer Health’s Community Medical Center in Celina. Versiti blood drives at Mercer Health will be held every third Tuesday of the month from 12 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Why donate? Blood donation is a community responsibility. While you’re reading this, a local patient needs blood.
Did you know?
What if there wasn’t enough donated blood available when you, a loved one – anyone – needed it?
Our blood supply comes from caring donors like you. It takes about one hour of your time. When you give blood, it gives someone another smile, another hug, another chance. It is the gift of life.
Donors are required to provide a photo ID that includes their full name. Past Versiti and Solvita Blood Center donors are also asked to bring their donor ID card. Donors must be at least 17 years of age (16 years old with parental consent: form available at versiti.org/resources or at the Dayton Versiti and mobile blood drive locations), weigh a minimum of 110 pounds (you may have to weigh more depending on your height), and be in good physical health.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) changes blood donor eligibility guidelines periodically. Individuals with eligibility questions can email canidonate@cbccts.org or call (937) 461-3220.
It’s easy to transfer your previous donations to Versiti. Just fill out a short form when you register to donate and hand the card back to Versiti staff. They will take care of entering your information in their system and give you credit for all past donations from prior organizations.
You can save time while helping save lives by using “DonorXPress” to complete the donor questionnaire before arriving at a blood drive. Find DonorXPress on the Donor Time App or at www.givingblood.org/donorxpress.
