Cooper Farms donates $50,000 to Mercer Health’s Childbirth Center Expansion

Cooper Farms’ donation of $50,000 will be used towards the new Obstetrician Room that will be part of Mercer Health’s Childbirth Center expansion and renovation.  The expansion and renovation to Mercer Health’s Childbirth Center, located within Mercer County Community Hospital, was recently announced and will ensure safer space for cesarean procedures, particularly during emergent situations; additional space for increasing births; an enhanced nursery allowing for dedicated space for unique situations; and continuation of local, compassionate, quality childbirth services.

Delivering on a Promise, the campaign supporting the project, was initiated last summer when the Walter and Evelyn Braun Family came forward with a generous $1 million donation.  Additional donations, totaling over $600,000, including the donation from Cooper Farms, have been made to the MED Foundation to support the project.  Deb Hemmelgarn, Director of the MED Foundation and Volunteer Services at Mercer Health states, “A successful campaign will ensure adequate funds to initiate the project.”

Hemmelgarn continues, “Those who choose to call Mercer County and the surrounding communities home often do so because of the way of life that is provided here, which includes the availability of quality healthcare. Childbirth Centers continue to close throughout Ohio and the nation.  We are enhancing our services because of our commitment to our community and the community’s commitment to us.  Increasing births each year require additional space.”
