Birthing Center Classes to Prepare for Parenthood

The Childbirth Center at Mercer Health offers a number of childbirth classes to best prepare you for parenthood, including in-person childbirth and breastfeeding classes.

Our childbirth education classes are designed to prepare expectant parents for labor, delivery, and care of the new mom and baby following delivery. We provide information on the stages of labor, pain management, relaxation, hospital interventions, after delivery care and newborn care. In fact, a great deal of our last class is dedicated to the care of the baby.

Our breastfeeding class provides a basic understanding of breastfeeding. Parents are given information on how to get breastfeeding off to the best start. Class is taught by our board-certified lactation consultant who is available after class to discuss any questions more in-depth. This class is recommended for first-time breastfeeding mothers and mothers who did not meet their breastfeeding goals in the past. Support people are encouraged to attend class with the mother-to-be.

Childbirth and breastfeeding classes are free to any expecting mothers and are offered at various times throughout the year, including both weekday and Saturday options.

The next childbirth education classes are Saturday, May 11, 2024, from 9:00am to 3:00pm and Thursdays, June 6, 13 & 20, 2024 with 3 classes at 6:00-8:00 pm. The next breastfeeding class will be held, Thursday, May 2, 2024 at 6:00-8:00 pm.
