COPE – Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment

Creating Opportunities for Personal Empowerment (COPE) is an evidence-based cognitive behavioral skills building program that helps children, teens and young adults develop skills to stop negative thoughts and to think and act in more positive ways.

For more information or to schedule an appointment, contact Mercer Health’s Center for Healthy Weight and Wellness at 419-678-8446. Referrals are not required.

Who is COPE for?

COPE is for children, teens and young adults ages 7-18 with mild to moderate depression, anxiety or mood disorders unspecified. The COPE program can be helpful for patients being treated with medication to learn how to effectively cope and manage thoughts.

How does COPE work?

The manual-based COPE program includes seven 25 to 30 minute sessions delivered over a 2 to 4 month period. Patients will learn coping skills, including positive self-talk, mental imagery, exercise, relaxation breathing, healthy food choices and effective communication.

MyHealth Program

The pediatric MyHealth program at the Center for Healthy Weight and Wellness aims to teach children ages 0 to 18 and their families how to create and implement healthy habits, reach healthy weights, and lead more active and healthy lives.

The MyHealth program helps families develop achievable behavioral and nutritional goals and create individualized action plans. The program offers motivation and support to help build confidence in kids within a safe and inclusive environment.
