American Diabetes Month, which is celebrated in November, has been promoted by the American Diabetes Association to focus the nation’s attention on the issues and seriousness of diabetes and the people impacted by the disease.
Locally, Mercer Health Diabetes Center, located in the Community Medical Center south of 127 in Celina, provides a variety of educational services for patients with diabetes and diabetic complications. Certified by the American Diabetes Association, the Diabetes Center provides 12 support groups each year and has partnered with OSU Extension to provide a Dining with Diabetes program to the local area. Annually, the Diabetes Center works with hundreds of patients.
Karen Homan, RD, LD, CDE with Mercer Health Diabetes Center states, “We work with patients individually to empower them to take control of their diabetes. We encourage them to make healthy decisions so that the choices they make improve their quality of life.” For more information about Mercer Health’s Diabetes Center, contact 419-586-9657.
