Lisa Klenke, CEO at Mercer Health states, “In order to meet the current and future healthcare needs of the community, an expansion project was necessary. Advances in medical science and technology continue to provide new and exciting opportunities for community hospitals to provide higher quality and more efficient healthcare to their communities. The enhancements made in surgical services, outpatient services and inpatient care services will adequately allow our team to continue to compassionately offer service to our community.”
The new 67,000 square foot West Wing allows Mercer Health to continue its mission to positively steer the community’s health. The Mercer Health organization originally opened its doors on December 6, 1950 as Our Lady of Mercer hospital. On April 1, 1972, seven townships in Mercer County took possession and assumed operations of the hospital operating as a joint township hospital district. Mindy Kremer, Senior Director of Development, Marketing and Community Relations shares, “Building on a Promise” seemed a fitting expression for the West Wing expansion project and associated fundraising campaign as “Building on a Promise” pays tribute to the forefathers that established and sustained the organization while representing the renewal of a promise for generations to come.”
Kremer continues, “Community hospitals play a unique role in the communities they serve, often innately anchoring a community’s way of life by providing local healthcare services, an economic lifeline for employees and an economic stimulant to the community. Some may define a community hospital based upon its number of beds, the geographic location or the governance structure. However, at Mercer Health, we think a community hospital is defined by the interwoven lives of friends, family and neighbors; a network of servant hearts and hands compassionately offering service in time of need.”
Kremer concludes, “We are most thankful to the community for their continued support and feel honored and blessed to continue to care for our community, providing local, quality, compassionate healthcare.”
An Opening Day Celebration Ceremony will commemorate the occasion. The ceremony, including participation from the Coldwater VFW Color Gaurd, Coldwater Marching Band and Mercer Health staff, will take place at 12 noon outside the South Entrance of the Sanderell Family West Wing.
