Making Healthy Waves: a free physical activity challenge to improve your health

Mercer Health and Community Sports and Therapy Center are again collaborating to offer a Healthy Waves Challenge to motivate and encourage the community to be more physically active. This FREE challenge requires participants to complete 1,020 minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity from August 8 through September 19, 2024.

The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services site recommends that adults complete at least 150-300 minutes of moderate-intensity each week. Preferably, aerobic activity should be spread throughout the week for substantial health benefits, such as reducing stress levels, boosting the immune system, improving sleep and preventing weight gain.

The Mercer Health Center for Healthy Weight and Wellness recommends getting creative when it comes to your physical activity and ways to stay active. These include outdoor activities (running, walking, biking and hiking), exercising with family, using online fitness resources, taking a virtual class, creating a relay race with kids, biking to work, renting a kayak or canoe and so many other options.

Participants who complete this year’s challenge will also receive a free t-shirt to congratulate them on their commitment to improve their health. One grand prize winner will receive a $100 Celina-Mercer County Chamber of Commerce gift certificate.

Official entry forms can be downloaded at www.mercer-health.com, www.cstcenter.com and https://bit.ly/3LMD3xD.

Completed entry forms must be submitted by September 26, 2024 to be eligible for prizes. Participants must be 18 years of age or older. Please see official rules for more information.
